From Above

One of the benefits of my current job  (and here's a link to a often misquoted and somewhat dated book called "Honolulu CSI") is the requirement to take aerial photos. A few days ago, after the heavy rainfall, I went up and managed to take almost 200 photos with the D90 - I was messing with the aperture, shutter priority, and manual settings and here's what came out. Since I usually shoot in RAW, these have been drastically reduced in size to accommodate the old blog :)

Despite the fact that is was overcast I am quite pleased with my new camera - it was quite windy up there and we ended up chasing a car around the windward side while I was shooting - all in all, good fun :)

In order: Overview of Honolulu w/ Diamond Head in distance; UH athletic field; Waimanalo with Rabbit Island in the distance; The Old and New Pali Hwy with the lookout visible; Kaneohe after the rains.

A Few More From The Trail

Thought I'd post a few more from The Aiea Loop Trail - perhaps to get those of you who live here and haven't been some motivation. These are mostly photos from the mauka side of the trail (most of it is mauka coming and going) towards the H3 Tunnel.

You can easily complete the 4.5 mile trial in 2.5 hours even if you stop to take photos. There are sections of the trail that are muddy no matter what time of year you go, and you will have to negotiate around a few fallen trees and assorted brush. However, for the most part the trail is even and easily accommodates runners as well as hikers (although I don't think I would run some of it due to all the exposed roots and the fact that parts of it are quite steep). Hope everyone had a Happy Easter!

 

 

Enjoy The Silence

  

 Not much new or exciting lately - and that's perfectly OK. Hopefully my Nikon D90 will arrive soon and I will have some new photos to share here. If you recall, I had to send my original back after I discovered that it had a faulty lens. I have two additional lenses that I'm itching to try on the new one so I suppose I'm getting a little impatient waiting for the RMA process.

In the meantime, we are contemplating going to Disneyworld for vacation this year and will probably stay close to a week or so since there are so many things to do and several parks to explore. I was five years old the last time I went and I vaguely remember attending one of the Apollo liftoffs at Cape Canaveral (I know, I know - I'm seriously dating myself here). 

We took a quick stroll up to the Aiea Loop Trial a few days ago and here are a few shots taken with the point-and-shoot. It is so peaceful and relaxing up there - all you can hear is the wind blowing through the trees on the upper portion of the trail - so we took a moment to simply enjoy the silence :)
