My how our little one has grown in such a amount of short time! The first shot was taken in July 08' at home and the second in January 09' on a recent walk up to the Makapu'u Lighthouse Trail. He'll be a year old in less than two months.

Warm Water Sunset

Here are a few photos for my mainland ohana - I know it's still rather cold where you are, but these photos might just warm you up a bit. Not sure what it is exactly about the second picture, but the water seems warm and inviting to me, despite the fact that there is no visible coastline or horizon. 

I'm hoping to capture some of the waves and or wind on the water later today as we are expecting a pretty big wind storm to blow through the islands. In fact, just about all the schools and government offices will be closed in anticipation. I've been toying with the idea of taking photos of the bike route I take from downtown to Kahala and back - we'll see.

Christmas in Hilo

I know this post is backdated somewhat, but I thought I'd share some random photos from our Big Island Holiday. Included are an early morning sunrise over Mauna Kea (hence the almost blood red color of the peak) and the heavy snow left behind after all the rain we had... World-Famous (and very hot in my lap) Tex's Drive-In malasadas, a view from Lili'uokalani Park across the bay towards Hilo town, different types of musubi at the Hilo Marketplace, the windswept Waipio Valley coastline and of course, Christmas dinner - local style! Not bad for my little point-and-shoot Nikon.

   

   

   

The Year Ahead

Here's hoping that 2009 will bring you all happiness, success, and perhaps even peace. I know for me 2008 had it's share of ups and downs, and I am definitely looking forward to what lies ahead. Despite the recession and the negative connotation of the following phrase, we do indeed "live in interesting (and historic) times."

Personally, I didn't make any New Year's resolutions this year as I'm going to simply take it as it comes so to speak. I have two certification exams that I plan to take and there will hopefully be some "big news" on the horizon, but for now I'm just going to enjoy what I have. Finally, here are a few photos from the annual Honolulu City Lights display for all my ohana on the mainland.
