Crime Scene Unit Redux

As promised, here's my announcement (not what some of you were thinking!). Yes, I'm back with the Honolulu Police Department's Crime Scene Unit (known as the Scientific Investigative Section or "SIS" here). After much thought and deliberation, I decided it was time to leave the Medical Examiner's Officer for a number of reasons - most of which I won't bother to post here, so let's just say I am happier where I am now. In addition to a familiar work environment, I'll get a chance to renew all my certifications and advance my career. I'm studying for the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators (ABMDI) certification exam anyhow, just in case I decide to return to the field down the road. Life is good and hope you all are doing well out there. I really am smiling in the photo - and not in a line up :)

More Pets :)

As promised, here are a few more photos from the Petwalk - and a few of Hapa, both on the way and getting ready to take off. For a little guy he did remarkably well, and was ready to play and run around all over the place when we finished. I'm sure he's never seen so many people or dogs in one place in his life (who has really), but he took it all in stride and made a  bunch of new (albeit temporary new friends). Sorry for the lack of updates recently, but I have been busy - and will post an announcement of sorts here soon. If you own a pet, live in Hawaii, and haven't gone to a Petwalk yet - you should! Of course, I included a shot of the lagoon area of Ala Moana Park (which you walk around) as a motivator!

Inspiration

Today was the 18th Annual Hawaii Humane Society Pet Walk around Ala Moana Beach Park, and since we have a new puppy, attendance was mandatory :) I've been to the Pet Walk every year since retiring here in 2003, and it always warms my crusty ol' heart to see how much pride and love people have in/for their animals (now if we could just get them to treat each other that way!).

Anyhow, just before the walk I spotted this special little guy - he was born without any front legs, but you'd never know it by how fast he hopped along and how genuinely happy he seemed to be. Needless to say he was an active little guy and hard to photograph, but an inspiration nonetheless - you see, animals don't feel sorry for themselves, they adapt and overcome, and especially dogs, always seem to find a way to make you smile.

I'll be posting more pics later (and some of Hapa of course), but as you can probably tell by the (lack of) updates, I've been busy lately. Here's one more of some bulldog puppies that were for sale at the walk. More later!
